Gauteng's most-wanted killed in shootout with police

Gauteng police have confirmed the death of the province's most-wanted suspect Mbuso Ndabazovela Biyela.
He was shot and killed in a police operation in Weenen in KwaZulu Natal in the early hours of Monday morning.
Last month police issued a R100 000 reward for information that led to the arrest and conviction of Biyela.
Biyela has been on the run for several murders, including that of a police officer, and carjacking committed between 2017 and 2022 in Jabulani, Soweto, Lenasia, and Nquthu in KZN.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muriduli says Biyela was previously arrested in both KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng for murder in August 2020 and October 2021 respectively, but he managed to escape from custody.
"The multi-disciplinary joint operation team conducted a takedown operation in KwaZulu-Natal during the early hours of today at about 03:00.
"The team tactically approached the house where Biyela was hiding but when he spotted them, he started firing shots towards the members who retaliated. Biyela was fatally wounded. None of the members sustained injuries, an unlicensed firearm was recovered."
