Premier David Makhura and the command council gave an update on the pandemic in Johannesburg on Friday/

However, Makhura warned that number of new daily Covid-19 infections and hospitalisations remain high.

Makhura said that even though the second wave had peaked, it is too early to talk about lifting the level 3 restrictions.

"We are monitoring other indicators of where the pandemic is and we are very concerned that the number of people admitted at the hospitals is huge.

"We are also going to say the hotspots are still there, although the hotspots have slowed down, they are less severe. There are over 300 hotspots, and they can easily spark another outbreak."

Chairperson to the council, Doctor, Mary Kawonga revealed that the coronavirus mortality rate has also decreased by 5%.
