Gautrain buses continue operations with limited capacity

The Gautrain bus services continue to operate with limited buses at all stations, except from Rosebank, Sandton and Roadsfield.

This, after at least 200 bus drivers were dismissed on Wednesday.

They were reportedly dismissed, after complaints were raised to management, about unroadworthy buses and buses operating without permits.

However, Gautrain spokesperson Kesagee Nayager says the management has been in talks with the transport department.

"I can confirm that all Gautrain buses are fully registered and have valid licenses as well as roadworthy certificates. Not all buses have valid operating licenses, and we have been in discussions with the Department of Roads and Transport to expedite the issuance of these operating licenses. We have issued workers who have embarked on an illegal work stoppage with notices of dismissal, and management is in discussions with the South African Municipal Workers Union in this regard."

Nayager says the stoppage and dismissal of workers has impacted the Gautrain bus service.

"We have been operating a limited bus service at all stations aside from Rosebank, Sandton and Roadsfield. We therefore appeal to our passengers using the bus service to and from Rosebank, Sandton and Roadsfield, to please make alternative transport arrangements until further notice."
