The final NSC exams will commence on the 23 October and conclude on the 28 November 2017.

The printing of questions papers for 92 subjects started from 1 August.

The Gauteng Department of Education says it is ready to conduct the examinations and ensure that it proceeds without major irregularities.

These examinations will be conducted in 881 exam centres across Gauteng.

"Relevant measures have been put in place to distribute and secure the question papers. This includes work with all security agencies to secure the question papers" says GDE spokesman Steve Mabona.

Umalusi and the Department of Basic Education evaluated the GDE's state of readiness and are satisfied that the province is ready to conduct the final NSC exams" says Mabona.

A total of 150 090 candidates have enrolled to write the exams, including 108 594 full-time and 41 496 part-time candidates in the province.

The department is urging communities to protect schools during protests especially during the exam times.

This follows  disruptions at Klipspruit-West Secondary School, south of Johannesburg, where matric pupils have had to be moved from the school in order to write their preliminary exams.
