The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has recommended that the pupil who was seen in video footage assaulting another pupil on the school grounds at Nic Diederichs High School in Krugersdorp be expelled.
The incident happened earlier this month, with video footage of the altercation shared widely on social media.
In the video of the incident a boy, said to be in grade 10, can be seen approaching the girl, also believed to be in grade 10, and assaulting her.
The department's spokesperson, Steve Mabona says a disciplinary hearing was held on Sunday.
"The hearing resulted in a recommendation being made to our Head of Department (HOD) stating that the said learner should be expelled from the school,” he says.
"Accordingly, a final decision on this recommendation will be made by the HOD and will be communicated in due course."
