'Gen Z' gets the nod to get the jab from Friday

South Africans between 18 and 35 years (known as "Gen Z") will be able to get the Covid-19 vaccine from Friday.
This comes after Cabinet gave the under 35s the green light to get the jab.
The country’s vaccination drive opened up in February, with more than 9.5 million people making their way to various sites across the country since then.
But there have been some concerns about the slowed uptake of the Pfizer, as well as Johnson and Johnson vaccines by the older cohorts.
“Cabinet welcomed the vaccination roll-out plan to increase the uptake of vaccines, particularly in provinces that had shown a reduction in the uptake of vaccines,” said Cabinet spokesperson Phumla Williams on Thursday.
Government has also had to allay fears that the vaccines were safe amid some hesitancy, especially among the general male population.
“Scientific evidence confirms that vaccinated people stand a better chance of surviving from Covid-19 than unvaccinated people. Therefore, we must all dispel the unfounded and misleading conspiracy theories about the vaccines and choose life by vaccinating,” Williams added.
“Cabinet encourages all unvaccinated people in South Africa to get vaccinated because vaccines protect us from getting seriously ill from Covid-19 and they save lives.”
