German tourist drowns in Western Cape

An elderly German tourist drowned in the sea at Sedgefield in the Western Cape on Wednesday, the National Sea Rescue Institute said.

Lifeguards patrolling the coast on foot found the 70-year-old man floating and unresponsive in the sea, it said in a statement.
"Despite all efforts to resuscitate the man he was declared deceased by paramedics."
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man is missing in Hermanus after he was swept out to sea.
The police dive unit searched for the man, but he had not been found by 4pm.
