Gigaba resigns as an MP
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Embattled former Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, has
resigned as a Member of Parliament [MP].
This comes two days after Gigaba resigned as minister.
Parliament Spokesperson Moloto Mothapo has confirmed Gigaba tendered his resignation on Thursday morning.
Mothapo says the National Assembly Speaker has already referred President Cyril Ramaphosa’s letter and the report by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, to the Ethics Committee and the Home Affairs Committee.
It relates to the Constitutional Court ruling and the finding by the PP that Gigaba had lied under oath during the Fireblade Aviation court saga.
"The Ethics Committee, in light of the recognition of the former minister and now as an MP, will have to make an appropriate examination," says Mothapo.
Gigaba’s spokesperson Vuyo Mkhize could not be reached for
comment.
The office of the African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip, Jackson Mthembu, has welcomed the resignation of the former minister Gigaba, as an MP.
