Girls High learners share their stories with MEC
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has heard testimony from black girls at Pretoria Girls High over the allegations of victimisation.
One learner recalled how her afro was described as a dirty bird's nest.
Another said black girls aren't allowed to stand in groups and are accused of being too involved in political and race issues.
"I have been told that my afro is untidy and that it is not natural and that it is a dirty bird's nest. The teacher once came to me and she manhandled my hair and she told me I had to cut my hair," one learner said.
She called my hair a bird's nest and told me a look like a sheep," another said.
Support for the girls are growing outside the school gates, with former learners and students joining the chorus of condemnation.
Members of the school's management are represented at the meeting.
