Glenvista school fight an indication of a larger issue says NAPTOSA
Updated | By Emile Pienaar
The National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa says a fight between a teacher and a pupil at Glenvista High School in Johannesburg shows the extent in the breakdown of discipline schools.

A video of the incident, which reportedly occurred on Thursday, was shared on social media on Friday, leading to a public outcry.
NAPTOSA's Executive Director Basil Manuel said pupils do not face the same consequences as teacher do.
"It is really unfortunate that this particular teacher lost their cool because at the end of the day, they will carry the (consequences) for that and the learner will probably be back in class tomorrow," Manuel said.
"You would have noticed how the one youngster was trading punches and another youngster was throwing a chair or a desk at the teacher. This is extreme provocation. The same parents who today will stand with their children will tomorrow accuse the schools of not having discipline when they didn't try and assist in enforcing discipline” he said.
Manuel hopes the department will consider all factors leading up to the altercation.
The Gauteng Education Department is probing the incident.
