Global Citizen Festival goer: The criminals were waiting for us
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Shocked concert goers are telling tales of how they had to run for their lives in order to escape groups of criminals, waiting outside the FNB Stadium in Soweto on Sunday.
Stories are emerging of thousands of people having to wait for hours for their Uber rides, leaving them vulnerable after the Global Citizen Festival ended just before midnight.
Concert goer Michael Cost says a day filled with happiness, joy and camaraderie, ended as soon as they left the stadium and realised they became an easy prey to criminals waiting outside the gates.
Cost has added his voice to those criticizing law enforcement and organisers for neglecting women - even though the objectives of Global Citizen include fighting for the emancipation of women around the world.
Cost accuses law enforcement agencies of also leaving them in the lurch - at a time when they needed police and metro police officers most.
National Police could not yet be reached for comment.
