Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has denied claims of sexual harassment that have been levelled against him by an employee at Kruger National Park in Skukuza earlier this month.
Godongwana released a statement on Thursday evening, following the reports that emerged over the weekend of sexual violations made against him while he was at a spa on Women’s Day.
The Minister confirmed that he met with police yesterday.
“I confirmed to the SAPS official that I indeed was in the Kruger Park area on 9 August 2022, when the alleged incident is said to have occurred. I repeated my previous assertion, that I in no way or at any time inappropriately touched, sexually harassed, or assaulted anyone.”
Godongwana also confirmed that police issued him with a warning statement.

“On Thursday, 18 August 2022, I was approached by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in connection with what they said was a criminal investigation against me. I met with an SAPS official, and I was furnished with a warning statement informing me of a criminal complaint laid against me in Skukuza, in the Mpumalanga Province. The complainant accuses me of sexual assault.”
Speaking to Jacaranda FM News earlier on Thursday, Godongwana said he would step aside should the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) decide to prosecute him.
In the meantime, he says that he will continue with his duties.
"While I serve as Minister of Finance at the privilege of President Cyril Ramaphosa, I wish to state that I personally intend on continuing with executing my duties by focusing on the critical tasks of revitalising our economy and protecting the fiscus."
Godongwana has since subjected himself to the African National Congress (ANC) Intergrity Commission.
