It deals with the 27 questions sent to Minister Gordhan just days before he delivered the budget speech for 2016.

The Hawks are investigating allegations of a rogue unit established within the SA Revenue Service, while Gordhan was SARS Commissioner.

It's an issue that's said to have dumped the Treasury into a deep division, with Sars boss Tom Moyane in the one camp and Gordhan in the other.

In the letter Gordhan tells the Hawks that he has only recently been able to consult with his legal team as he was busy drafting the budget.

In two counter questions to the Hawks, Gordhan asked them on what authority they were relying on directing the questions to him.

He also wanted to know from the Hawks if they were investigating any offense and, if so, what is was.
