Gordhan tells SAA staff airline 'here to stay'
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has told thousands of South African Airways (SAA) staff that the flag carrier has a bright future.

Last week, Gordhan announced the scrapping of a deal to sell a 51% stake in SAA to the Takatso Consortium due to a disagreement over the new evaluation of the carrier.
The minister addressed 2,000 SAA employees at the flag carrier's head office in Kempton Park on Friday.
Gordhan said he was confident that the SAA board and executive will steer the airline in the right direction.
“We should be grateful to government for the role it played to avoid liquidation. Our ambition is that SAA will make enough profit to pay the government dividends.
"We have rebuilt the airline, and it will make profit that can support the fiscus instead of it
looking for bailouts from government."
Gordhan, who will retire from active politics after the May elections, told staff "SAA is here to stay".
"SAA will grow. SAA will expand. Don’t allow negativity to come near us. We will have zero tolerance for any corruption that rears its ugly head at SAA."
