Gordhan: Zuma introduced me to Ajay Gupta
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan has detailed
his interactions with the infamous Gupta family in an affidavit.
The 68-page sworn statement has been delivered to the judicial inquiry into state capture headed by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
Gordhan is expected to testify next week.
He says the most significant meeting happened early in his first term as finance minister, when he attended a meeting with former president Jacob Zuma at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria.
Gordan says the president introduced him to a man he believed to have been Ajay Gupta in one of the meeting rooms at the guesthouse.
"Mr Zuma introduced him as 'my friend' and told me that the man had expertise in regard to small business and finance.
"I recall us exchanging generalities for a couple of minutes, but I do not recall the details of what was a very cursory exchange. Mr Gupta then excused himself and left me and the former president to continue our meeting," Gordhan says.
