GOTG donates 50 tons of water to the Mother City.

Humanitarian organisation Gift of
the Givers has donated 100 000 litres (50 tons) of water to
drought-stricken Cape Town.

The Mother City is experiencing one of its worst droughts in history, with Level 6B water restriction kicking in on Thursday.
This will limit residents to 50 litres of water per person per day.
Gift of the Givers’ Emily Thomas says they decided to step in as there is a clear need to help residents.

Meanwhile, the Department of Water and Sanitation’s Sputnik Ratau says while the situation in Cape Town, it’s not at a point where other provinces need to risk losing water.
“We are working closely with the City of Cape Town to ensure that by the time the rain comes we will still have water in the city, although it won’t be much.”

But Thomas says they are taking precautionary measures.
“All the water we receive is labelled and if the water isn’t labelled, it will be taken in for testing. We are looking into shipping the donated water rather than using trucks."
