Government to act against five indebted municipalities
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Residents of five municipalities across the country are facing a difficult festive season, as the Department of Water and Sanitation acts against authorities which owe it money.

The department will institute water throttles, which will reduce the water supply by 20%.
Minister of Water and Sanitation Nomvula Mokanyane says the department is still in talks with indebted municipalities.
Mokonyane says they are pleading with the political leadership in the municipalites to deal with the issue.
In November, the department announced that it would cut water supply to 30 municipalities that had not serviced their debts.
Twenty five of those municipalities have come forward, with 11 making payments towards their debts by the December 8 deadline.
