Govt gazettes increase in minimum wage

The department of Labour has gazetted an increase in South Africa's minimum wage from R20.76 per hour to R21.69.
The new rate will come into effect from next month.
The Department's spokesperson Musa Zondi confirmed the break down as follows.
"Domestic workers will now be entitled to R19.09 per hour, which is an increase from R16, Expanded Public Works Program employees will now earn R11.93 per hour and, farmworkers are entitled to R21.69 per hour,"

According National Minimum Wage Act of 2018, it is illegal for an employer to unilaterally alter working hours or other conditions of employment when implementing the national minimum wage.
Zondi says the new rate excludes other allowances such as transport, tools, food, and accommodation.
