As the world marks International Women’s Day, Deputy President Paul Mashatile said the government remains committed to the cause of gender equality.
Mashatile delivered the keynote address at a Human Resource Development Council event on Friday.
International Women's Day is celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement.
"We remain committed to championing both the cause of gender equality and gender justice,” Mashatile said.
"This meeting also takes place where the country commemorates Human Rights Month, which recognises a constitutional right to basic education, including adult education and further education, which the state must take reasonable measures to make progressively available and accessible.”
Mashatile added that the government is making a concerted effort to address the country’s skills shortage.
"All sectors of the economy must adjust to new demands to personnel skills, research, digital connection and alternative platforms for education, health and public services,” he said.
"For us, to match with the new demands, we must undergo a rapid shift to realign the content of our curriculum offerings and skills development programme.”
