A special ceremony will be held on Tuesday to commemorate
International Nurses Day amid the battle against coronavirus.
The different events around the country will be attended by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, his deputy Joe Phaahla as well as the country’s various Health MECs.
The coronavirus pandemic has brought the work done by nurses into the spotlight.
Nursing day is celebrated on 12 May, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
Mkhize will be in KwaZulu-Natal together with the National Department of Health Chief Nursing Officer, Nonhlanhla Makhanya.
Makhanya is expected to read the Nurses’ Pledge of Service, which will be simultaneously read by nurses all over the country.
In Gauteng, the MEC for Health Bandile Masuku will join nurses at Zone 17 Clinic in Sebokeng, along with Phaahla.
