Grace Mugabe's PhD thesis finally released

Former ZANU-PF leader, Grace Mugabe's doctoratal thesis has been published by the University of Zimbabwe amid claims that she was unlawfully rewarded the degree.

Mugabe's study investigated the nature of changes in the structure and functions of a family, and determined how such changes contribute to the emergence of children's homes in Zimbabwe.


The University of Zimbabwe failed to publish Mugabe's thesis after she graduated in 2014.


Zimbabwe's Anti-Corruption Commission launched a probe after the 226-page thesis' academic substance was challenged.


Reports suggest that the doctorate was awarded because of ousted president, Robert Mugabe's dedication and commitment to the country.


She was set to take over from her husband.


It was not clear why Mugabe used her second name and maiden surname, Ntombizodwa G. Marufu, for the paper.

In 2014 it was reported that Mugabe holds an undergraduate degree in a Chinese language obtained through correspondence from a Chinese university.


In January President Emmerson Mnangagwa, as University of Zimbabwe Chancellor, warned university officials of awarding degrees to non-deserving students.


"Higher learning institution should shun corruption, nepotism, bribery in teaching, research and management of all affairs within our learning institution. Deplorable corrupt and immoral tendencies that have seen underserving students getting passes must stop."
