Parents across the country dropped off their children at school on Wednesday, kickstarting the 2024 academic year with a range of emotions.
The 2024 academic year officially commenced on Wednesday, with both inland and coastal schools opening their doors.
While the older pupils will be met by familiar faces, it marks the beginning of a new journey for grade one and R pupils.
Meryke Muller, a mother of a Grade 1 pupil, says she is nervous but excited about her son's new chapter.
"I cannot believe my baby is going to grade 1, but I am very excited for him, for this new chapter in his life. It is exciting, yet I am nervous. I know this chapter is part of life.
"I know he will make new friends, and I know that the friends that he will make will probably be there for the rest of his life.”
Conny Ramohale, who is a parent to a grade R pupil, says her daughter's new chapter is quite exciting.
Ramohale says she is aware that her child will likely experience a few learning challenges.
"I am excited about seeing her starting a new journey of being in class and attending lessons.
"This is going to be a new environment for her as she is going to be based in a school-based environment, starting to learn.
“I am ready to see her making new friends. She might lack concentration on the first day because she is not used to that. Nonetheless, we are excited for her".
