Grade 11 learner commits suicide

A grade 11 pupil from Strauss Secondary School in Ekangala has committed suicide after receiving his final academic report.

The Gauteng Department of education's spokesperson, Steve Mabona says his mother found his body at their home.
"It is alleged that the learner's mother found him hanging in the garage at his home. Subsequently, emergency services were called to the scene and the learner was transported to Dark City Local Clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival," says Mabona.
The Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, visited the family on Friday.
"One is devastated. I have just left the family now and they are in a state of shock. We really want to give them support. We have assigned a team to work with them and give them necessary counselling and support. This is indeed shocking, especially because the learner was a twin to another learner at the school," said Lesufi.
