Grenade thrower to apply for bail

A 44-year old former South African Air Force colonel, who is accused of killing his wife with a hand grenade is set to apply for bail in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning.
Joel Mahoase is alleged to have thrown two M26 grenades into the kitchen of their Amanzimtoti home on August 29 during an argument. One of them exploded, mortally wounding her.
His wife, Lesego succumbed to her wounds at about 2am the next morning after being rushed to Kingsway Hospital by family members.
She was a member of the SA Air Force and was based at the military base on the Bluff in Durban.
The man, who is also a former Umkhonto we Sizwe member, made a brief appearance in court last week.
During that appearance he looked dishevelled and was wearing only one shoe.
