Gun owners warned to hand over unlicensed firearms
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Police have reiterated its warning to gun owners who failed to renew their firearm licenses to hand the weapons in at the nearest police station or face prosecution.

This follows last month’s ruling by the Constitutional Court.
In the landmark ruling, the highest court in the land upheld an appeal by the Minister of Safety and Security by dismissing a high court order which had declared that two sections of the Firearms Control Act were constitutionally invalid.
The sections deal with the expiration and renewal of firearm licences.
The police's Vishnu Naidoo says gun owners are still allowed to hand in the firearms and ammunition voluntarily without facing arrest.
"Should we find them in possession of the firearms at roadblocks or their houses, they will be prosecuted,” he warns.
