Gupta-leaks: Sisulu asks ANC Disciplinary Committee to act

Human Settlements Minister and presidential hopeful, Lindiwe Sisulu, says the ANC must bring those implicated in the so-called Gupta emails to book.

Sisulu delivered the keynote address at the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation's annual banquet on Sunday evening.

"We are daily treated to news of some fall-out or other of disgraced resignations owing to emails that have come out and have become known as the Gupta emails. I have been saying over a long period of time that the ANC has the mechanism to solve this problem," said Sisulu.

She posed this question to the ANC's disciplinary committee chairperson Derek Hanekom who was among the guests:

"I spent most of my evening with the chairperson of the disciplinary committee. And I did not ask you, why they are not taking the necessary steps to bring all those people mentioned to book? Derek Hanekom, why are you not taking all of these people to the disciplinary courts of the ANC? We must, we should and I will write a letter to you tomorrow," said Sisulu.

Sisulu says the actions of government have forced the people to question the ANC.

"We see daily the disintegration and dismayed spectacle of SOE's unable to post positive results and dependent on bail outs. Our people look upon us for wise counsel and they are fully justified to demand answers - we don't have any.   We have forced our people to scrutinise us in public, we have forced our people to refrain from voting for us in the recent local government election. We have forced them to take to the streets on a regular basis to express their dissatisfaction with us," she said.

She also says to those in the ANC who have decided to stand up with Kathrada, it is not too late to fix the ANC.

"I personally believe that if we change the ANC in December, it will be possible for us to re-root ourselves and get back on the track of Albert Luthuli, Ahmed Kathrada, Ruth First, Lilian Ngoyi, Ruth Mompati, Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo. But clearly with sufficient numbers, we can create a forest that offers the shade to many more hardworking, sweaty and honest Africans against the harsh African sun," she said.
