Guptas might take legal action against protesters
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
The controversial Gupta family is in talks with their lawyer after a protest took place outside the Saxonwold Military Museum where the family hosted a religious event on Sunday.
Lawyer Gert van der Merwe says he has advised the Gupta family to seek legal action against the protesters.
“The reason I advised my clients to seek legal action is because the protest was unwarranted and unlawful. This was a religious event sponsored by the Guptas and the protesters did what they could to disrupt the event which cannot be justified,” says Van der Merwe.
Several protests have taken place outside the Gupta home following the national call to march against President Jacob Zuma.
“Some of the people who wanted to attend the festival were told not to go. Some of the people who wanted to get onto buses that were hired for them and others were hindered when they tried to enter the premises. There are various actions taken by these protestors to unlawfully prevent people from exercising their constitutional right to religious freedom,” says Van Der Merwe.
