A 47-year-old director of Mtititi Drop-in Center has been arrested by the Hawks for alleged Covid-19 social relief funds fraud.
It is alleged the 47-year-old director claimed R3.2 million of Covid-19 social relief funds from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) on behalf of her 242 former Malamulele-based Expanded Public Works Program (EPWP) workers.
Hawks spokesperson in the province, Matimba Maluleke says the director claimed the relief funds between April and August 2020.
He adds workers’ contracts were terminated before the country went into lockdown.
"It is further alleged that the claimed money never reached the pockets of the former workers," says Maluleke.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court on Monday to face fraud charges.
