The Hawks in Limpopo have arrested 11 suspects, including two former SASSA officials, on charges linked to disability grant fraud.
The two former officials were arrested following a two-day sting operation in the Tzaneen area on Wednesday and Thursday.
"During 2018, the two former SASSA officials, in their capacities as administration clerks, allegedly recruited members of the public to apply for disability grants although they were not disabled," says Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke.
"After their applications were successfully processed, the first few payments to unlawful beneficiaries were given to the former officials as gratification.
"Then the unlawful beneficiaries continued receiving the grants until it was discovered by the SASSA authorities who reported the matter to the Hawks."
The alleged fraud cost the agency some R200,000.
Matimba says the two former officials were previously arrested in 2021 on similar charges, and while out on bail, they allegedly continued to commit fraud.
They are expected to make their first appearance in the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court on Friday.
