Hawks in Mpumalanga bust taxi driver for human trafficking

The Hawks in Mpumalanga have arrested a minibus bus taxi driver on charges related to human trafficking after he was found transporting 23 foreign nationals on the N4.
The driver told police he was instructed to pick up the group from the road to Delmas.
Hawks spokesperson Lucy Sekgotodi says the 23 suspects included 14 Pakistani and 9 Bangladeshi nationals aged between 14 and 46.
"The driver was arrested on charges of contravening the Trafficking in Persons Act 7 of 2013, aiding and abetting.
"It was also discovered that some passengers had passports, but some did not have. Those available passports were unstamped. Amongst the group, two minors 14 and 17 years old."
The suspects are expected to appear in the Barberton District Court on Wednesday.
