Hawks nab one of their own for cash heist

The elite-crime fighting unit arrested a Mpumalanga officer for allegedly having a hand in a R1.4 million cash in transit heist and bank robbery.

Officer, Petrus Nkosi, allegedly conspired with a cash in transit heist syndicate in 2015 which resulted in a bank robbery and a cash in transit heist in Hazyview, where R1.4 million was robbed.


The 53-year-old warrant officer was arrested by his colleagues on Monday and charged with conspiracy to commit cash in transit heist, armed robbery, money laundering, defeating the ends of justice and unauthorised use of a state vehicle.


According to Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson, Dineo Sekgotodi, Nkosi was linked to the syndicates after a relative withdrew money on his behalf through money market transactions.


"Nkosi appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate`s Court on Monday 14 May 2018 and he was granted R8 000.00 bail and the case has been postponed to 16 May, pending further investigations."


Two members of the alleged syndicate have also been arrested.
