Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a KwaZulu-Natal
police officer.
Sergeant Nduduzo Sibiya (36) was killed on Sunday while helping a woman who opened a case of assault against the suspects.
The suspects, aged 18 and 25 respectively, were arrested during a sting operation in Verulam on Tuesday.
KwaZulu-Natal Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says the suspects stabbed the officer to death.
"After he finished assisting the woman, the suspects followed him, fatally stabbed him, they took his firearm and fled the scene.
"A case of murder was reported at Verulam police station and a case docket was allocated to the Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime who worked since that day and managed to follow the lead which led them to Bergville where they found the suspects in their hiding place.”
Mhlongo says the suspects are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
"They are still busy with some outstanding investigations before they take them to court and we are hoping that by tomorrow they will appear at Verulam Magistrate’s Court."
