Hawks processing 41 statements on Phala Phala - Lebeya
Updated | By Masechaba Sefularo
The Hawks have revealed they were processing at least 41 statements in the Phala Phala robbery docket.
During his update on the investigative directorate's priority crimes in Pretoria on Tuesday, Hawks boss Godfrey Lebeya said he would not get into the "nitty-gritty" of who the statements were deposed by.
The investigations stem from former spy boss Arthur Fraser’s allegations about the theft of millions of US dollars at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm two years ago.
"Rest assured that 41 statements is more than the statements that the complainant may have filed," Lebeya said.
At the same time, speaking at a briefing by opposition parties calling for the President to vacate his office over the scandal, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said political interference had stopped the Hawks from acting.
Ramaphosa has denied any wrongdoing and pledged to fully cooperate with the investigation processes.
