Hawks recover huge arms cache
The Hawks in Gauteng have arrested a 65-year old man for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and explosives.
Spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu says authorities seized 16 shotguns, a revolver, 1.5 million rounds of ammunition, as well as different kinds of explosives, hand grenades and electronic detonators.
"The operation was conducted yesterday with the assistance from the Springs SAPS, the bomb disposal unit and the dog unit."
Mulamu says police also recovered instruments used to process of gold dust worth over R300 000.
The suspect will appear in the Springs Magistrates Court tomorrow.
