Police Minister Bheki Cele has urged officers not to be afraid to use their weapons when their lives are in danger.
Cele was speaking at the funeral service of Beauty Marivate, who was the station commander at Elukwatini in Mpumalanga.
Marivate was shot and killed on 30 December when she responded to a business robbery in the area.
"These criminals who are heartless must face the anger of everybody, law enforcement agencies and communities. We are not going to celebrating all the time the victims of the war and those victims come from the police, the time must come to celebrate the conquering of the war."
"Police officers finish the criminals; we can't complain of criminals the whole year. Give criminals their run, make a lot of discomfort for criminals,” said Cele.
"The past months have resulted in the deaths of over 40 officers killed in line of duty, while 876 perished as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, which many others having sustained career-limiting injuries,” added Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) spokesperson Richard Mamabolo.
