Heat to blanket parts of Gauteng from the weekend
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says a blanket of heat will cover parts of the interior from Sunday, when a heatwave is expected over various provinces.
SAWS forecaster, Lulama Theme, says we can still expect more isolated showers and thundershowers for the rest of the week ahead of the expected heatwave.
"The temperatures are picking up. In Gauteng, you can expect warm conditions, however we are expecting isolated showers and thundershowers, but it looks like it will be more scattered around the Lowveld of Limpopo and Mpumalanga for today.
"Moreover, in the central parts of the country, we are expecting isolated showers and thundershowers. There will be some showers along the south coast and that condition is expected to persist again tomorrow."
Theme says the heatwave will approach from Sunday .
"Temperatures will be hot towards very hot. And it heads into the heatwave category in the Northern Cape and Western Cape."
"Rain is expected to strengthen on Saturday over the Gauteng province, we expect a 50% chance showers and thundershowers, as well as over the escapement of KZN and North-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, that will be on Saturday moving forward."
"But for the two days that is today and tomorrow, there isn't much going on before the heat creeps in," adds Theme.
