Heavily armed suspects killed in shootout with police

Three heavily armed suspects have been killed by Ekurhuleni Metro Police (EMPD) in Boksburg.
The suspects were killed at the Angelo informal settlement on Main Reef Road on Monday morning.
Spokesperson Khobeli Mokhoseng says police received a tip-off from members of the community.

"A concerned member of the community saw a group of people walking next to shut mine shafts waving firearms. Our SWAT and Tracing units responded at 5am. When assailants saw the EMPD closing in, shots were fired,' Mokhoseng says. "Our officers retaliated where 3 male attackers succumbed to their wounds."
Police could not confirm if suspects are illegal miners.

"We are not sure if they are linked to illegal miners or were securing them while they were mining illegally."
Police recovered several firearms.
Fifteen illegal miners were also arrested and will appear in the Boksburg Magistrates court soon.
