Hefty sentence for former SSA clerk who stole R170k
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Former finance clerk at the State Security Agency Kgaogelo Bopape has been sentenced to six years in prison for the theft of R170 000 in April 2020.

She was convicted of theft by the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
Bopape withdrew R500 000 under the false pretense that she would make the funds available to the members of the SSA operations. She then kept the cash in a safe in her office and later took R170 000.
Her manager subsequently noticed that half-a-million rand was missing from the safe and investigated the matter.
She later confessed to stealing the money and was arrested in January 2021.
“The NPA welcomes the sentence, and we hope this sentence will send a strong message that such crimes of theft, fraud, and corruption will not be tolerated,” says National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
