The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa and Transnet Freight Rail confirmed that all three lines at Hercules north of Pretoria are back in operation.
The Mabopane to Pretoria and De Wildt to Hercules services returned to regular scheduling on Tuesday afternoon.
Thousands of commuters were left stranded after the line was temporarily closed due to the derailment of a freight train on Wednesday evening in Hercules.
In a statement on Thursday, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa and Transnet Freight Rail said the damaged points along the line were replaced and safety tests were concluded.
"Platform 2 and 3 lines have been handed back to train operations for the safe operation of passenger trains. The repair and full resumption of the services come as a huge relief to commuters whose travel times were prolonged due to a single line operating.”
