High Court orders Zuma to return to jail

The High Court in Pretoria has overturned the decision by former correctional services commissioner Arthur Fraser to place former president Jacob
Zuma on medical parole.
Judge Keoagile Matojane handed down the scathing judgment on Wednesday.
“The decision of the first respondent Arthur Fraser, to place the third respondent Zuma, on medical parole is reviewed, declared unlawful and set aside.”
The judge then ordered Zuma back into the custody of the Department of Correctional Services to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
However, a timeframe for Zuma to hand himself over is not yet known, although the court ruled that the time, he spent out of prison do not count towards time served.
“It is declared that the time the Zuma was out of jail on medical parole should not be counted for the fulfilment of his sentence of 15 months imposed by the Constitutional Court,” Matojane said.
Both Zuma and Fraser have also been ordered to pay the cost of the applicants.
Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in prison for his refusal to testify at the commission of inquiry into state capture, but only served a portion of his sentence before being released in September on medical parole.
