High-level SAPS delegation to visit TUT
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) says the Deputy Minister of Police will lead a high-level government delegation to the Soshanguve campus on Monday.
Academic activities have been suspended for Monday.
This follows the death of a student during violent protests on Thursday night, over claims that the Student Representative Council (SRC) elections were rigged.
The deputy minister of Police, Bongani Mkongi, officials from the Higher Education Department and management from the TUT are expected to visit the Soshanguve campus.

"Students are called on to continue studying. It is test week, and they should not miss out on the opportunity to write their tests. Those who miss tests at the Soshanguve campus today will be accommodated," says the institution's spokesperson, Willa de Ruyter.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has been roped in to probe the incident when a student was shot and killed on Thursday evening.
It's believed that R5 rifles with live ammunition were used to calm students after they allegedly assaulted and held a presiding officer hostage and also pelted stones at the police.

The police watchdog is now waiting for results from the ballistic tests of the firearms.
De Ruyter says a date for a memorial service for the student will be announced this week.
