High traffic volumes expected on N3 this weekend

Authorities are bracing for a busy weekend on the country's main roads as holiday makers return home.

This is the last weekend before public schools open for the 2017 academic year on 11 January.
The N3 Toll Concession's Con Roux says a lot of people have already made their way home.
"We are expecting the balance and the final push to take place on Sunday. A word of advice to motorists who might be returning from the coast to Gauteng is that we are expecting Sunday afternoon to be very, very busy. Our advice is to leave the coast earlier rather than later in order to avoid the peak traffic," says Roux.
Roux says they are expecting around 2000 vehicles moving through toll gates every hour on Sunday.
He adds they are also expecting some rain over the weekend.
"We have a particular plea to motorists; before setting out, check your tyres to see if they are in good condition, reduce speed and increase your following distance, and also switch on your headlights to make yourself more visible to other motorists," says Roux.
