Hijacker killed in dramatic shootout in Roodepoort
A man, believed to be in his 30s, was killed after an apparent hijacking on the corner of Ontdekkers and Mouton Roads on the West Rand.
According to police spokesperson Kay Makhubela a second suspect fled the scene.
"One suspect was shot and killed and we are not sure if any of the other suspects were injured during the shootout," he says.
Makhubela says a local policeman noticed several armed suspects attempting to hijack, a man where after the man opened fire.
"The owner of the vehicle is safe. He wasn't injured," Makhubela says.
Police have opened an inquest into the death of the alleged hijacker.
