Hlatshwayo: Bafana game against Libya was ‘war’
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter says the national team was confident of success ahead of the crucial game against Libya on Sunday.
The players arrived back in the country on Tuesday after qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Eqypt.
Bafana Bafana beat Libya 2-1 in Sfax to qualify for the showpiece event for the first time since 2015.
Baxter addressed the media at OR Tambo International Airport upon their arrival back in the country.
He lauded the PSL for releasing players ahead of time to allow them to train as a unit in the run-up to the qualifier.
“I’d like to thank the PSL, all the clubs, the coaches that gave us their players.”
Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo described the game against Libya as “war”, saying they always knew their opponents and the crowd would put the team under massive pressure from the first minute.
“We managed to hold still, be solid at the back. We had a plan, we worked on it and we are happy that it worked.”
Hlatshwayo said the team is now focused on winning the tournament, which is set to be played in June.
Bafana Bafana will find out who they will be paired with in the group phase when the draw is made on Friday.
