Hlaudi Motsoeneng a minister: ANCYL
The KwaZulu-Natal leadership of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) believes that embattled SABC executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng should be given a minister’s post.
Speaking in Durban on Thursday evening, during a lecture series on economic freedom, ANCYL provincial secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo said that Motsoeneng was minister material because he had a clear programme to uplift black people.
Motsoeneng was a “bold leader” according to Sabelo, adding that he was glad that the ANCYL eThekwini region had earlier in the evening called on Motsoeneng to become a member of the National Executive Committee. He said the ANCYL provincial leadership would back Hlaudi.
eThekwini region secretary general Thinta Cibane earlier told Motsoeneng that if he was in the NEC, “there would be no more votes of no confidence” against president Jacob Zuma.

“We don’t support you because you are beautiful. You must know you are ugly. We support you because you have a clear programme to uplift the black people of this country. Your scope at the SABC is too narrow,” said Sabelo.
“You must at least be made a director-general somewhere.”
Motsoeneng would be under attack for the rest of his life because “the imperialists look for the bold and try to bring them down,” he said.
“These ministers who don’t have confidence in the president have already tendered their resignations by saying they don’t believe in the boss. There are minister posts there and they must take Hlaudi,” said Sabelo.
He was referring to a clutch of ministers who allegedly called on the president to step-down at an ANC National Executive Committee meeting held in Pretoria over the weekend.
“Zuma must not waste time, he must fire people now,” said Sabelo.
He said it was irrelevant whether the NEC had confidence in the president.
“Zuma wasn’t elected by the NEC. He was elected by the branches of the ANC.”
The president’s term was coming to an end, and it would be the youth who would inherit his legacy, said Sabelo. He called on the 400-strong crowd to ensure they were highly skilled
South African Revenue Services’ commissioner, Tom Moyane, was also meant to speak at the event. According to Sabelo, Moyane could not attend because he was called to a meeting with the president.
