Holiday traffic volumes down as economic crunch hits home

Traffic volumes on the N3 highway to KwaZulu-Natal have been lower than expected this year.
The N3 Toll Concession's Con Roux says they did not see the expected spike in road users as the Reconciliation Day long weekend kicked off, pointing to the impact of tough economic times in South Africa.

"The entire year we've seen light motor vehicles traffic volumes being a lot lower than they were last year...and I think that that's an indication of the state of the economy," said Roux.
"I don't think that people have a lot of disposable income with a lot of people being retrenched and so on. And definitely we are seeing the effect on the road."
