Home Affairs Dept gives rapper Mos Def 14 days to leave SA
Updated | By Tando Ntunja
US rapper Dante Smith known as Yasiin Bey and previously known as Mos Def has been given 2 weeks to vacate South Africa, after having overstayed his visitor's permit.
Mos Def first fell in love with South Africa in 2009, when he first came to perform at a major jazz festival in Cape Town.
Years later in 2014, he settled in the Mother City and has been an artist-in-resident since.
Reports emerging now note that the rapper's visitor visa has expired, while his passport was a legimate US passport. The discrepancy in the documents of the "Travelling Man" rapper were found when he was due for a visit to Ethiopia from South Africa.
#MosDef Home Affairs: He was departing SA for Ethiopia using a “World Passport”. SA does not recognise a world passport.
