Home Affairs has SA’s safety in its hands, says Ramaphosa
President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed concern over the levels of corruption that continues to exist in the Department of Home Affairs.
Addressing senior officials at the department’s head office in Tshwane on Friday, Ramaposa said the department cannot afford to be the “home of corruption”.
The visit formed part of the president’s vow during his State of the Nation Address when Ramaphosa said he would be visiting different government departments.
This is the first department Ramaphosa has visited, with the president stressing the role of Home Affairs in keeping the country safe.
"Home Affairs has the security of our nation in their hands because they have to make sure that everybody in our country is well documented, from the president right downwards is documented. They have their ID, passports, birth certificate and that documentation must never be tampered with, it is an important security document."
