The Department of Correctional Services and the Jacob Zuma Foundation
have confirmed that former president Jacob Zuma has been admitted to hospital
for medical observation.

The former president is serving a 15-month sentence at Estcourt Correctional Centre after being convicted of contempt of court.
Spokesperson for the foundation Mzwanele Manyi says they are hopeful that everything is well with the former president.
“From the foundation’s side of things, we are very hopefully that everything goes well. The statement from the Correctional Services is correct, he’s gone to his annual medical check-up.”
Manyi says Zuma is positive about his appearance at the High Court in Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on 10 August.
“He is looking forward to ventilating his side of the story at the court in Pietermaritzburg. So, his state of mind is very positive. Unless a doctor says something else from our side it’s all systems go.”
On the wellbeing of the former president, Manyi says they are not doctors but are positive.
“We not doctors, but the last time he did this was a year go, what doctors will find today is what they’ll find today. But we can obviously be positive and say there’s nothing.”
