Housebreaking suspect killed in police shootout

A housebreaking suspect was killed during a shootout with police on the R55 in Midrand on Thursday.

This comes after the driver of a Corsa bakkie failed to stop at a routine roadblock and police gave chase.
A shootout ensued during a high-speed chase.
"It is alleged that suspects started shooting at the police who returned fire. One of the suspects succumbed to gunshot wounds," says police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters.
"Police then recovered a replica of a firearm, housebreaking implements and goods suspected to have been stolen during a housebreaking in Kyalami, earlier."
Police have launched a manhunt for four other suspects.

"According to information available at this stage, the missing Majakaneng man was in the company of his friend when the suspects caught them stealing copper cables and water sprinklers.
